Eva Beneke

Born in Berlin (Germany) Eva Beneke studied classical guitar at the Berlin University of Arts with Prof. Martin Rennert. Her success there led her to the Franz Liszt Hochschule in Weimar to study with Prof.  Thomas Müller-Pering, one of Germany’s most influential guitarists.

In 2012, Eva received a doctorate with honors from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where she studied with Scott Tennant, Pepe Romero and jazz-guitar legend Bruce Forman.

In addition to prizes at international guitar festivals in The Netherlands, Italy and the U.S., Eva Beneke is an internationally acclaimed soloist, sought-after chamber musician and published arranger. Her performances have been broadcast nationally and internationally on radio and television, such as NPR´s "Performance Today" and CBS television.

Highlights of her career include appearances with the German Symphony Orchestra under Kent Nagano, invitations to international music festivals in China, Peru, Germany, Lithuania, Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. Here latest CD "Complete Works for Voice and Guitar by Fernando Sor" is a duo-collaboration with Spanish mezzo-soprano Nerea Berraondo for NAXOS America.

In the Fall of 2012, Eva Beneke joined the faculty at McNallySmith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota (USA), where she maintains an active guitar studio.

“Eva Beneke next took the stage and took us in an entirely different direction and new heights. She captured the profundity and the joy of Bach in two of her own transcriptions ...She is a musician to be reckoned with and we will hear more from her in the future.” Brantford Expositor, 9. February 2012 (Canada)

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
